Etc

A few random thoughts that have absolutely nothing to do with each other, because it’s Saturday.

1.  My dog Henry decided to sleep in the bathtub the other night.

2.  I bought Pioneer Woman’s new cookbook which I have been waiting for for months and I have not had two seconds to look at it.  When I get a new cookbook I like to read it cover to cover.  I still have this cookbook in the queue of books to read.

3.  Once a year I turn all the hangers around in my closet and then once I’ve worn them I turn the hanger the correct direction.  That way by the time January comes around I’ll know if I haven’t worn something in over a year which means it’s time for it to go.

That is all.

December Style

….aka spending money I don’t have on clothes I don’t need.

Just wanted to share some shoes I’ve picked up recently that I’m enjoying:

Glitter heels…. my first pair of Christian Loubiutins!  Not.  They were $34.99 and from payless.  Wish I could find a link online but I can’t even though I just bought them.  Totally rocking them on New Years Eve, even though I can’t walk in them.

These ankle boots from a very expensive French boutique called Tar-get.  Once again, just bought them a week or two ago and can’t find the link online, sorry.

These were actually more than I should have spent… I think $100.  Of course these exact ones aren’t online either but here is similar pair:

The brand is Miz Moos and I am now a big fan.  There so not normally something I would get but I’m trying to branch out of my normal style which is boots, jeggings and a flowy blouse.

Last but not least:

Christian Soriano for Payless.  Love them.

I’ve gotten to the point that I feel more comfortable wearing heels than flats.  I guess it helps that I am 5’4″ and freakishly misproportioned and have short legs so I really do need to wear heels.

I Can’t Explain What Happened

I don’t know what happened the other night.  I think I lose consciousness sometimes when I go shopping.  All I know is 1) I got my Holiday bonus check at work that day and by that evening it had been spent, 2) I literally shopped till I dropped… literally, I was running into people and could barely carry the bags, and 3) I bought my first ever Kardashian Kollection item of clothing (and my first ever item of clothing from Sears, for that matter).  They were skinny legged black dress pants, and I like them very much, thank you.

Ok, so three of those bags weren’t mine, they were my coworkers, she just through them in the picture to make me look even more like a nut.  I think I have a binge shopping problem.  I like go on a high and lose the ability to think clearly.  Then I got home, looked at everything on bought and was like “what on earth just happened…?

I don’t know, still processing it.

White Tuxes

I am just not a fan of white tuxes.  I know these are really ugly examples, but unless your Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, you have to be really careful to pull it off correctly.  First of all tuxes are evening wear and should be worn in the evening- 5pm or later.  A lot of people get this wrong- they wear tuxedos, black or otherwise for a wedding at any time of the day.  Secondly, and this is just my opinion, I think a white tux only looks good when paired with black pants and a black bow tie.  Other than that, I’m not a fan.  But if you’re into it, rock it baby.

A Few Favorite Hats and Fascinators

I don’t know about you but I was swooning over the amazing hats and fascinators worn by the ladies at yesterday’s Royal Wedding.  I’ve always loved hats and if I had boat loads of discretionary money you can bet I would be spending it on building a wardrobe of hats.  Here are some of my favorites from some of the most famous British Milliners.

Jane Taylor Millinery:

The one above kind of reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding headpiece from the Sex and the City movie…

My favorites from the British Favorite Philip Treacy:

Faint.  My favorite.  (Above)

And some from Catherine’s favorite Milliner, Vivian Sherrif:

My favorite look of the day was Miriam Gonzalez, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.  Love her fascinator.  Faint.

This just cements it in my mind… I was born in the wrong country and century.  Sigh.

Royal Wedding Dresses

Lifetime recently had some of their past Project Runway contestants submit sketches of ideas they had for Kate’s wedding dress… here are my faves:

Here is the full gallery of dresses: http://www.mylifetime.com/movies/william-and-kate/photos/project-runway-kate-middleton-wedding-dresses#id=1

I think I like these three because they are very similar to the wedding dress style I would like to have someday:

(Can’t remember where I got this picture from, most likely either stylemepretty.com, emmalinebride.com, or utterlyengaged.com.  Sorry if that’s you in the picture or you were the photographer, let me know and I’ll give you credit!).

Pretty, Pretty Dress

I was in Target yesterday and this dress caught my eye… I absolutely love it.  That’s the problem with Target, you go in to buy socks and you end up spending your whole pay check cause everything is so stinkin’ cute.

I love the beading, that it’s navy blue (my fave color).  The only problem is that they didn’t have it in my size, only one size smaller than I needed.  So, this weekend I’ve gone to two other Targets in the area in search of my size, and I couldn’t find the dress at all any either of the stores. Sooo… I did something you should never do, I bought it in the smaller size that I really can’t fit in at the moment.  BUT, and I know everyone says this, I really really am making a massive effort to drop about 20 pounds.  When the day comes that I can fit in it, I will snap a picture of it and post it here :)

Skechers Shape Ups Update

I mentioned here how I was in the market for Shape Ups.  I finally picked up a pair at my local Skechers shop (and I’m glad I went in the store as opposed to buying them online… I found a cheaper pair than the ones I was eyeing online and they were 20% off).

Here is what I ended up buying:

Verdict:  I love them.  I can totally tell they are toning my legs.  And no, they don’t hurt (muscle wise), comfort wise they are one of the comfiest pairs of sneakers I’ve ever worn.  Not that I’m a big sneaker wearer, I firmly believe sneakers are only for working out and never to be worn out and about.  As Avery says in 30 Rock “Flats are for quitters.”  I love me some high heals, yo.

The only downside: I’ve gained some major (muscle) weight.  I’ve become a running monster since I bought them a few weeks ago and I’ve watched my weight slowly creep up while my body shrinks.  I know they scale will catch up with my body eventually, but it’s still a little scary.
