I got a red Le Creuset Dutch Oven for Christmas which I was totally not expecting. When I opened the present I literally shrieked like an 8-year-old who had just gotten a my size Barbie (that is a whole nother story…).
I hadn’t even asked for it. I’ve been dreaming and salivating over a Le Creuset Dutch oven for years now, but figured I wouldn’t get one until I got married and someone bought me one off my wedding registry because they ain’t cheap. And it was in red, which I don’t think my step-mom knew that I buy all my kitchen appliances in red because 1) most of my mom’s kitchen appliances were red and 2) I think red is a good color to have in the kitchen, it stimulates the appetite.
So this is pretty much what I look like now in the kitchen:

About the my size Barbie, I asked for one every year for Christmas for about 5 years in a row, but that was during the time when my dad was a recent widower so it probably went in one ear and out the other. I think if I got one now I would probably shriek like I did when I got the Le Creuset.

Madeleine (cake?)

Crepe Cake:

My mother was a gourmet trained cook at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and living in France when she met my dad. Here are a few french cakes from their wedding, one is a croquembouche, Lord knows I have no idea what that contraption is, if anyone can enlighten me please let me know:

Labor day weekend my family went to my favorite place on earth, Kiawah Island, South Carolina. We’ve been going to the beach there for years. It’s ruined me for all other beaches, there is nothing quite like Kiawah.
A few years ago, probably closer to 10 now, they announced they were building a resort on the island. We were not happy… Kiawah is a very local island… it’s private and you have to go through a gate to get on it. Back when my step-grandparents started going to Kiawah you used to have a key to open the gate and there were wild horses and boars than ran over the island. Much of it is developed now. Anyways, we were nervous about a resort coming to the island… I know my step-grandmother was especially worried about the inevitable influx of yankees. She got over it. The Sanctuary is beautiful. And not cheap… $650 a night for the cheapest room (we did not stay there, for obvious reasons). Usually we rent a beach house but since we were just there for a long weekend we just rented a condo overlooking a lagoon.
The Sanctuary is absolutely beautiful… southern elegance at it’s finest. I love everything about it.
So many photos so here they are in a gallery… click the photo to view it larger. The hotel looking ones are obviously the sanctuary. Included in the gallery are pictures of my sister’s 30th birthday that we celebrated while we were down there, and us at the beach house we normally stay at.

My sister introduced me to this company BILK that creates some pretty cool wall stick on art and decor. I’m totally digging it.

I love monogramming… I would monogram my panties if I had the time and money. It’s so elegant, Southern, classic, timeless… well, maybe it wouldn’t be if I did it to my unmentionables, that would be more weird than elegant.

I’m on a mission to find IKEA’s Expedit Shelf in white (the 5×5 larger one). I’ve wanted it forever (read about it here and here and here and here) and now that I am ready to buy it, it is out of stock at every IKEA in the DC area (Woodbridge, VA, Baltimore and College Park, MD). Thank the Lord for Craigslist and Ebay! I’ll let you know how I make out!

Proud wearer of JEGGINGS since December 2010. So comfy I may never take them off! Don’t mind the hot rollers.

I got mine at Macy’s… they are the rage right now so the selection at my local start was picked over so I would suggest ordering them online. The brand is Hue, they are called Skinny Jeanz. I did have to buy a size Large which they don’t appear to have online. I bought them in black (what I am wearing in the picture).

That’s a pic of me in them from behind…not.
