Southern Hospitality: The Pineapple

The pineapple has long been a symbol of Southern Hospitality.  Legend has it that people used to hang it above their outside door to symbolize that the man of the house was in and therefore they were open for visitors.

Nowadays you will see it carved above doorways and topped carved on top of banisters and railings in the south.  I love it, it will for sure be part of my dream home, welcoming people to the large wrap around front porch.
