The League of Moveable Type

I love finding new (free) fonts to download.  Dafont.com is one of the best sources out their for free fonts… it has a ton of them.  I recently, and by recently I mean over a year ago, stumbled upon The League of Moveable Type, another great source for free fonts.  It only has a handful of fonts but I’ve found some of my favorites on it, League Script and Ostrich Sans.  League Script is actually what I use for my blog header (look up).

I recently took a webinar on design tips for blogs and they recommended some other sites which I haven’t checked out yet: fontsquirrel.com, typekit.com and google.com/webfonts.   I’d love to hear if you have found any other great font sites.

Photo Shoot Mood Board

I mentioned here that I need a new head shot…  I want to wait till the weather is a bit warmer and it’s sunnier out and I’ve gotten rid of the winter flub I’ve accrued lately.  I’ve been thinking about what I want to wear, I knew from the get go I wanted to wear my skinny jeans or jeggings with some brown knee high boots.  I’ve had an image in my mind of the blouse I wanted to wear, and when I walked past Old Navy yesterday, there it was, the exact shirt I had been picturing in my mind.  I’m in love.  I thought I was going to have to spend $4,598 to find the shirt I wanted… and that is why I love Old Navy.

So here is my inspiration for my new head shot photo… I like the J.Crew necklace but it is out of my budget at the moment.

Old Navy Floral Chiffon Top

On a side note, I got Adobe Illustrator CS5 for Christmas which enables me to make these mood boards.  I wanted to get the whole Creative Suite, but that was just a bit too much money for me, and besides all I really want is Illustrator and Photoshop.  And all I really want in Photoshop is their background eraser tool, which would let me get rid of the white around some of the images above.  So my question for anyone who knows is, can you background erase in Illustrator?  I’m really hoping I don’t have to pay $500 for Photoshop since that’s really the only tool I want.

Scriptina

I have seen this font all over the place in print advertising.  Doesn’t surpise me, it’s very pretty!  I bought Scriptina on dafont.com.

I Miss You, Adobe Creative Suite

I quit my day job about a month ago, which means I no longer have access to the computer with Adobe CS4 on it, which makes me very sad.  And angry that I don’t have a couple thousand to drop on the newly release CS5.  I mainly used Illustrator for doing graphics; creating mood boards, etc.  I’m thinking about asking for it for Christmas from Le Parents, but there are so many other things I want, laser hair removal, IKEA’s Expedit shelf, a plane ticket to Germany… Sigh.  Anyone know of any cheaper, comprable programs for graphic design?
